Identifying you Rom VersionLocate your Rom Version on the top of the drive in the bottom right hand cornerof the decal as shown in the picture below.There are several versions of Hitachi 46DG, 46DH, 47DH, 47DJ, 59DJ, 78FK, 79FK,79FL. All can be unlocked with the software Mode B except the 79 models. The 79models are unlocked with an inserted disc. This is a temporarily RAM Unlock andwill need to be done each time the drive is flashed. A link is provided in therequirements section above. The 79 drives will have a separate section explainingthe unlock process.
Quick ExplanationHitachi drives are very different from all other drives and are flashed in a specialway. So, they get treated a little differently. There will be several sections of thismanual. 1. Flashing a drive with original firmware 2. Flashing a drive with custom firmware 3. Mode B Unlock 4. 79 UnlockThe processes are not a far cry from each other but it is important to understandwhat to do if you have one or the other.One more important note is that this drive requires the eject function, so if youare using an Xtractor 3 like I am, use the molex power since USB doesn’t supporteject. The Xtractor 3 does have an auto Mode B but I prefer to do it on the Lizard,it’s your choice.Flashing a Stock Firmware DriveWe will start with this because it has the fewest steps and will make the CFWsection easier to understand.1. Open up the Current Toolbox and “Get Device Details” just to get the PC prepared2. Unlocking your drive for vendor mode A. Mode B for most drives B. 79 Unlock Disc3. Let’s start with the 79’s

Nov 09, 2014 (4) The Hitachi GDR-3120L should be detected and ready to work with Note: Make sure USB Only is NOT Ticked 2. Now we are going to get the drive into ModeB so Windows can detect the drive and assign a drive letter.
1. Enter the “Hitachi Drive Menu” tab in the Lizard Menu2. Select “Send Software ModeB Command”

3. 1/2 Attach drive turn it on press OK. 2/2 Eject and Close the tray and press OK. I find it easier to already have the 79 disc inserted at this step.
4. With a successful ModeB continue in the Hitachi tab to ”Unlock a Hitachi 79 Drive”. Insert the 79 disc if you have not already and click OK. Give it a moment to spin. It will eject the disc when it’s finished. If the 79 Unlock has failed make sure you burned it correctly following these instructions http://www.xbox- scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EkEZZlZlluOgglMGnT.php If it continues to fail you may be in need of a laser replacement or tweak, as this is very common with Hitachi Drives.
Reading the Drive with OFWAfter Unlocking the drive use the Toolbox to read thedrive and NOT the Lizard1. Have the Toolbox open and on the “Hitachi Flasher” tab.2. At the top line where it says “Read Drive” click on the “Choose File” button and choose a destination for the source.bin file to be saved. It will ask if you want it to be created say yes.3. At this point the Lizard will tell you if the drive has CFW on it, if so you need to flash to stock. This will be covered in the next section.4. At this point you need to go to the “CFW Generator” tab and make your CFW. Select the source.bin you just read as “Soure/Base Firmware”. Then Select the most current LTPLUS Fileset as “Destination/ Target Firmware” and click “CFW Save as”. Save the HITACHI_CFW.bin.
5. Go back to the “Hitachi Flasher” tab and click the “Flash CFW” circle and “Choose File” navigate to the HITACHI_CFW.bin.6. Click “Analyze Changes” and wait for the program to finish the changes it needs to make to the f/w.
7. Now click “Write”, a promt will ask if you are sure say yes. At this point your Lizard will flash drive. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING!!!8. Write Succesful, your drive has now been flashed with custom firmware!
Reading drives with CFWThis part has assumed you have unlocked your drive andare ready to read from the Toolbox1. Have the Toolbox open and on the “Hitachi Flasher” tab.2. At the top line where it says “Read Drive” click on the “Choose File” button and choose a destination for the source.bin file to be saved. It will ask if you want it to be created say yes.3. At this point the Lizard will tell you if the drive has CFW on it, if so you need to flash to stock. “Do you want to restore it now?” YES

4. Select “Restore to Stock” then click “Analyze Changes”5. Once it has finished click “Write !” It will ask if you are sure. YES! Let it finish flashing back to stock.
